How it works
There are two systems. Storage makers use powers of 1,000 (a GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes). Computers often measure in powers of 1,024 (a GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes) but may still label it "GB". That's why a 1 TB drive shows up as about 931 GB.
Worked example
64 gigabytes (1000³) is 59.6046 GiB (64 × 0.93132257).

Questions
Why does my 1 TB drive show less space?
The drive is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Windows divides by 1,024 three times and calls the result GB, giving about 931 "GB". Nothing is missing.
How many MB in a GB?
1,000 MB in a GB (decimal), or 1,024 MiB in a GiB (binary).
What is the difference between Mb and MB?
A lower-case b means bits; an upper-case B means bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte, so a 100 Mb/s connection downloads about 12.5 MB per second.
